Denys Corbett Wilson, on 18 June 1913, piloted the first aircraft to
land in the cliff-top fields at Highcliffe (Christchurch, Dorset). His Bleriot XI-2, powered by an 80hp, seven-cylinder Gnome engine, brought him to Highcliffe in one hop from the Hendon aerodrome near London. The Bleriot was based on the cliff top for at least a fortnight, with Corbett Wilson making other flights, including crossing to the Isle of Wight.
