Harry Hawker, with mechanic
Harry Kauper, embarked from Southampton on the 1,450 mile
Daily Mail Circuit of Britain race for float-planes. The aircraft was a
Sopwith one-off powered by a 100 hp
Green E.6 engine and capable of 65 mph. They landed at Yarmouth where Hawker collapsed due either to sunstroke or carbon monoxide poisoning, ending their first attempt.
